On Friday, December 18th 2015, WBC Cares member Irene Kostenko organized a fundraising event in Pinneberg, Germany, to collect money for an electric wheelchair for Eugen Sadym. Eugen is a huge boxing fan and a true inspiration in the way he accepts challenges in life. Since watching a boxing movie in 2005, his only goal was to get into the ring and become a boxer – despite the fact that he was born with familial spastic paraplegia (FSP) and is bound to a wheelchair.
Eugen has been training every day for ten years and finally got the chance to get into the ring this year at an event organized by SKV Boxing in Krasnodar, Russia. His idols Dmitry Pirog (former middleweight champion) and Dimitry Kudryashov (cruiserweight contender) supported him and he was crowned „Honorary Russian Champion“.
„This is a dream come true“, said Eugen after the fight. „And it is also a good signal for all people who think that they are limited. There are no limits if you believe in yourself. You can always fulfill your dreams if you are willing to work hard and with the help of good friends. Never give up! Keep on fighting and your dreams will eventually come true.“
Now Eugen needs an electric wheelchair and some additional medical treatment which his family cannot afford. So Irene Kostenko decided to organize a gala event in Germany supported by WBC Cares Germany with dinner, music, show elements and three professional boxing fights promoted by Wiking Promotion in association with ITS Promotion.
The event was a big success so that Eugen will get his electric wheelchair and treatment.
Champions in attendance were former WBC World Super Featherweight Champion Vitali Tajbert and former European Light Heavyweight Champion Eduard Gutknecht among others.
„We are very happy and very proud that everything went well“, says Irene. „I want to thank all my friends who helped me making this possible, especially my dear friends from the WBC and WBC Cares. They have been a tremendous help.“
